Carnival and Chili Cookoff attracts attention – SwiftCurrentOnline.com

Games, bouncy castles and a ton of chili can be found over the weekend at Family Community Church for Swift Current’s second Carnival and Chili Cookoff.

This was the second year the event could be held in the city, with the inaugural event taking place in 2019.

Bev Swanson, a pastor at the church, said she and her husband Rob originally put the event together as a way to connect and give back to the community.

“It’s been great to be able to do community things,” she explained. “We really love being able to host events like this for our people but also for the community. And just serve our community and do something fun. Everyone seems to be having a great time. Some of them walked away with some pretty big prizes and a pretty big smile, so it makes it worthwhile.”

Over 110 people attended the event on Sunday.

Participants were able to enter the chili contest by selecting eight different options and voting for their favorite.

“They got little Dixie cups, so they went and got little taste tests for each of the chilies they wanted to try, and then they picked their favorite and put that number in a raffle in a little basket,” she added. “Then at the end, we counted all the votes and the winner got a prize.”

Swanson added that the sweet chili was the winner of this year’s competition.

The event was also filled with family-friendly activities such as bouncy castles, carnival games and face painting.
