Carnival committee donates £2,000 to Wales Air Ambulance

A Gwynedd carnival committee has donated £2,000 to the Wales Air Ambulance to help with
rescue missions.

Members of the Llanberis Carnival committee who helped organize the annual community event
between 1967 and 2002, recently met to discuss what to do with the funds left in
account before “closing the books”.

The carnival ended in the village in 2002, but the committee remained to donate funds periodically
for local reasons.

Eric Baylis, one of the members of the Llanberis Carnival Committee, said the carnival was bound to
end as there were not enough volunteers to help organize the event.

He said: “Sadly, the carnival became too big for us to manage and we couldn’t do enough
volunteers to continue to make it a success. We have had some fantastic carnivals over the years which
we had a lot of fun and have some great memories and we raised a great amount of money for
community and local causes.

“A few months ago, we met as a committee to discuss where we wanted to spend the remaining funds.
go to before we close the account. We decided to donate some money to the Welsh Air Ambulance
as it is a vital service.

As well as the Welsh Air Ambulance, other causes to benefit the carnival committee
donations including Dolbadarn Primary School, Llanberis Nursery Group, Llanberis Medical Centre,
Llanberis First Responders Community Development Group and the local community council.
Eric said: “From the money we also helped to buy a defibrillator at the school, Christmas lights at
village and new equipment in general.”

A presentation was held at St Padarn’s Church where the Wales Air Ambulance Community Fundraiser,
Alwyn Jones, received a generous check for £2,000 from the committee on behalf of the Charity.
Alwyn said: “I would like to wholeheartedly thank the committee members for this essential
donation to our lifesaving charity. Your support is greatly appreciated. Wales Air Ambulance
it now runs 24/7, seven days a week and donations like this are vital. Keeping our helicopters inside
air and first responders on the way, we can still get the emergency department
for the patient and to save lives.

“I would also like to thank the committee members for their warm welcome to the beautiful St
Kisha Padarn and I wish you all well for the future.”

The charity needs to raise £8 million every year to keep its helicopters in the air and quick response
vehicles on the road.

The Wales Air Ambulance Service provides advanced critical care across Wales. It is distributed through a
The unique Third Sector and Public Sector partnership between the Welsh Air Ambulance Charity and

consultant-led and known as a ‘flying emergency department’, receiving hospital standards
treatments for the patient at the scene of an incident. This includes the ability to administer
anesthetize, administer blood transfusions, and perform minor surgeries, all at the scene
the incident.

There are several ways the public can continue to support the Wales Air Ambulance. THESE
include donations online, by signing up for the charity’s Lifesaving Lottery or by going out with them
the very innovative way to raise funds at home. Further information can be found
