Living my dream of retiring at age 31 and then sailing off into the sunset, Carnival Cruise Line’s Ecstasy is embarking on her final voyage to Turkey. The ship, which premiered in 1991, will be recycled in Aliaga, Turkey, according to The points guy. Ecstasy took her final passage as a guest cruise ship on October 10.
The ship is part of Carnival’s Fantasy line and was a successful part of not only the Carnival company, but also a defining success for the cruise industry in general. Now, the ship will be scrapped and recycled, joining other famous and aging ships such as Princess Cruises’ Love Boat.
“We’ve certainly had a lot of fun at Carnival Ecstasy over the years,” brand ambassador John Heald said in a press release. “M/S Ecstasy, as we knew it then, changed the game when it entered the fleet, alongside her Fantasy-class ‘SuperLiner’ sisters, and we have the innovations of the time to thank for many of our features. The ships are known at the moment”.
Ecstasy has completed 2,300 trips since launching in 1991 and has carried nearly 5 million passengers in that time. She’s definitely earned her pension – which is good considering the ship is pretty dated compared to more modern ships. After all, some of these new ships have roller coasters and AquaDomes.
