Another Carnival cruise ship has rescued refugees from a small boat in distress near Cuba. The incident happened on board Carnival Paradise on Sunday afternoon around 3:30 pm ship time while the ship was sailing between Cuba and Mexico on a 5-night Western Caribbean cruise.
The refugees were taken on board the cruise ship and the relevant authorities were contacted.
Cruise ship rescues refugees
The small boat with at least 20 refugees on board appeared to be a sailboat and was reported to be moving when it was seen. The cruise ship slowed and turned to assist the vessel and brought the individuals on board.
After participating in the rescue, the ship’s captain informed the passengers on board about the incident. “In accordance with maritime law, we have taken them on board our ship and notified all relevant authorities. said the captain.
The weather at the time was clear, sunny and relatively calm, but the small vessel was obviously overloaded and assistance was needed to ensure the safety of those on board.
After the refugees were brought to the cruise ship, the rowboat remained on the road, still with some containers left on board. The little vehicle showed scratches and damage, definitely in bad shape, even for a calm, clear day.
