Trinidad and Tobago: The official launch of the Carnival dubbed the “Mother of all Carnivals” organized by the National Carnival Commission (NCC) team devoted considerable time and resources to make the event a must-see gala for the whole family, according to the Institute of Carnival of Trinidad and Tobago.

The NCC took this event to its core beginnings by performing carnival rituals and giving a sneak peek into how Carnival began, in the Queen’s Park Savannah Drag area. This was followed by a mini Traditional Mas parade that ended at the Queen’s Park Savannah Grand Stand in the space known as the Mecca of all Carnivals.

After this year’s “Taste of Carnival” that we experienced as a nation, this themed launch hopes to see the return of traditional carnival concepts and elements. There is the return of the North Stand, Panorama, Junior and Senior Band Parade, Calypso Semi-Finals (Skinner Park), Mas Traditional Parade on both Carnival Friday and Monday.

Another innovation for 2023 is the NCC Carnival Heroes awards segment, which recognized individuals who have contributed first-class service to carnival, culture and the arts. Some of the honorees were Roy Augustus, Lionel Jagessar Snr., Elwin “Daddy Scratch” Edwards, Winston Gordon, Kenneth Da Silva and others.

The excitement, however, started at 4pm and there was a free “carnivalist” experience for all patrons. This event transported patrons through the evolution of Carnival from what it meant – the freedom of slaves to the modern festival that now has economic and historical significance.
