The long-awaited Carnival celebration has successfully completed her sea trials, bringing her one step closer to debuting with the Fun Ship fleet. These critical tests are essential to ensure the ship’s systems are working properly, and the new ship sailed through the trials with flying colors.
Carnival celebration Sea trials complete
Carnival celebration embarked on her sea trials on Monday, September 5th, from the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. Initial trials lasted several days, testing the ship’s engines, thrusters and technical systems, including maneuverability, speed and stopping capabilities.
On board was the ship’s master, Captain Vincenzo Alcaras, as well as the engineering team and many crew members, who not only oversaw the testing, but also familiarized themselves with the ship’s systems for smooth and efficient operation.
“During her sea trials, Carnival Celebration underwent several tests aimed at determining the ship’s capability and performance.” Alcaras said. “We did a lot of handling tests, such as stability tests, steering tests, speed tests and thruster tests. The ship performed wonderfully and we will soon take her out and begin sailing.”
While Alcaras and other crew members were on board the vessel to witness the sea trials, the vessel remains under the control of the shipyard and the captain has not yet taken control of the vessel.
Depending on the size, systems and performance of an individual vessel, as well as the weather and marine traffic in the trial area, sea trials typically take just a few days or up to 10 days to complete.
Carnival celebration completed its trials in the Baltic Sea, in the complex archipelago around Turku, Finland, on the southwestern tip of the country.
What is expected next?
Next for the ship will be the ongoing work of finishing and equipping the ship with all the necessary supplies for passenger service. In the coming weeks, crew members will begin arriving on the ship and preparing to welcome guests.
The ship’s maiden voyage is scheduled for November 6, 2022, sailing from Southampton. The 14-night one-way transatlantic itinerary will bring Carnival celebration to her new port in Miami, Florida, visiting ports in Spain, Portugal and the Canary Islands en route.
The second Excel-class ship in the fleet and sister ship to Carnival Cruise Line award-winning flagship Mardi Gras, Carnival celebration sure to be celebrated when she arrives in Miami, with fanfare from fireships and facilities ashore as she makes her way into port for the first time.
The ship’s arrival in Miami will be the culmination of the cruise line’s 50th birthday celebrations that have included special decorations, new menu introductions, exclusive merchandisecruise ship meetings and other events throughout the year.
Carnival celebration there will be six distinct areas on board, each offering unique flair for guests to enjoy. It will be of particular interest Golden Jubilee Bar and Loungea one-of-a-kind venue that showcases 50 years of Carnival cruise line history with built-in memorabilia, retro designs and other nostalgic touches.
For example, the country will be the home of vintage 1934 Rolls Royce Saloon that was removed from Carnival ecstasy in June. The Fantasy-class ship will retire in early October, just a few weeks early Carnival celebration debut.
Once in Miami, the new ship will offer a variety of 6-8 night itineraries in the Eastern, Western and Southern Caribbean throughout the year, giving guests plenty of opportunities to enjoy everything the ship has to offer, including second Bolt coaster at sea and very popular across the fleet.
Mardi Gras AND Carnival celebration will be joined by another Excel-class vessel, Carnival jubileewhich is planned to enter service in 2023.
