A Georgetown resident has died in a crash on the Rupert Craig Highway late today.
The deceased man has been identified as 32-year-old Stephon Stewart of Charles Street, Charlestown, Georgetown.
The accident happened sometime around 3:10 a.m. when he collided with a tow truck that was removing another car that had gone overboard in a nearby canal in an earlier accident.

According to police reports, Stewart was driving car PRR 7135, while car PKK 9331 was driven by Adrian Montrose of One Mile Wismar, Linden, and the motor truck, GAC 1297, was driven by a Demerara resident, non-Pariel, Coast Eastern. .
It was reported that PKK 9331 was traveling westbound in the southbound lane of the Rupert Craig Highway when Montrose alleged that an unknown motor truck, traveling in the same direction in the northbound lane, turned left into the path of the vehicle. his.
This caused him to swerve further to the left to avoid a collision with the truck. But in doing so, Montrose lost control of his vehicle and ended up plunging into a ditch located on the south side of the road.
During the process of removing the car from the ditch, motor truck GAC 1297 was parked with the front facing west in the southbound lane of the southbound carriageway with its hazard lights on.

According to police, Stewart was found motionless in his damaged vehicle after the crash. He was later pronounced dead at the scene by an EMT.
