The Chilean Ministry of Justice is currently considering the possibility of establishing a detention center exclusively for prisoners belonging to indigenous peoples.
“There is a group of parliamentarians both from the opposition and from the ruling party, who have already officially proposed to us the possibility of creating a prison for people serving the sentence who are Mapuche people. We are looking into this,” the undersecretary of state for justice, Jaime Gajardo, told La Tercera newspaper.
