There’s no bait guaranteed to attract a PC gamer like someone on social media asking for advice on a PC build—especially if that someone is a celebrity with 2.8 million followers, like actress Chloë Grace Moretz. The star of Kick-Ass and new sci-fi series The Peripheral recently tweeted about her gaming habits, saying she was “obsessed” with the Modern Warfare 2 beta. again in September and that she seriously wanted to enter the race sim. Now it seems like she’s on the cusp of becoming a full-fledged PC gamer.
Early Wednesday, Moretz posted the bait on Twitter, asking “all my gaming friends out there – for setting up a PC, where do I start, how deep do I go into the intricacies of it?” Three hours and about 750 responses later, she had already received the usual spread of responses: other influencers and fans recommending boutique PC builders, others recommending her own build, and brands eagerly offering their own gear. . (Special thanks must go to reader Chris Thornett, who recommended PC Gamer’s Alan Dexter as a veteran hardware expert).
If I were Moretz, I would have quickly given up on answering a thread with 750+ answers, but I’m glad she wrote to a few people who recommended building on top of a prebuilt hardware and mentioned PCPartPicker as an invaluable resource. As our EIC Evan Lahti wrote years ago, building your own PC is a unique experience.
“It’s pretty much legos for adults,” wrote one fan on Twitter, which received a response from Moretz. “Lego for adults is literally a dream haha yes.” she wrote.
After rough years of overpriced or unavailable stock, it’s finally a good time to build a PC again:
Moretz is a racing fan and already has one wheel configuration and a care package from Logitech to start her gaming setup, but if I could make a few suggestions to any new PC gamer:
- Don’t skimp on the monitor: it’s a high-quality, high-refresh screen so nice. For a racing fan, I think the best choice right now is the slightly curved 34-inch Alienware AW3423DW. 175 Hz refresh and HDR in an OLED!
- Get a great chair—and maybe not a gaming chair. We can tell you about the best gaming chairs, but I would recommend the Herman Miller Embody or even better, the Steelcase Gesture (opens in new tab)on a gaming-style bucket chair.
Once she gets her rig up and running, I hope Chloë Grace Moretz fully falls into the life of a gaming tinkerer and discovers the Sunday morning joy of installing 30 mods for a game and then never playing it. that, or underclocking a CPU to get as much. performance for less power. If she and Henry Cavill ever cross paths, I like to imagine they’ll have a deep discussion about Noctua fans. They are truly the best.
