City News Blog: Lakeland City Commission Will Appoint Interim City Commissioner


LAKELAND, FL (July 20, 2022) | The Lakeland City Commission will appoint an Interim City Commissioner to replace Commissioner Phillip Walker, who must vacate his seat because he is running for state office.

Interested candidates must live in District A (Northwest District) and must have lived in the area for at least one year prior to November 7, 2022, to be eligible. Those interested in being considered for an Interim City Commissioner must be registered voters in Polk County and have never been convicted of a felony. The deadline for filing documents with the City Clerk is August 26, 12:00 p.m.th. Candidates will not raise or spend campaign funds. The Interim City Commissioner appointment will be made by the Lakeland City Commission on September 19th and the selected candidate will take office on November 7, 2022, for a one-year term ending December 31, 2023. Interested candidates should complete the Interim Candidate Contact Form and return it by email to [email protected].

City Clerk Kelly Koos said, “Upon receipt of the Candidate’s Provisional Contact Form and verification of qualifications, our office will send an application packet to potential candidates. The packet must be completed and returned to our office no later than 12:00 p.m., August 26th. Late applications will not be accepted, so please pay attention to the deadline and remember to include a CV, cover letter, copy of voter registration and proof of residence with the package.”
