By Aaron Humes: Police Commissioner Chester Williams has reported that this carnival Saturday appears to be incident-free so far.

“Carnival started this morning with J’ouvert across the city. Many Belizeans from all over the country came out to witness the first J’ouvert in 3 years. As expected, people came out in large numbers as participants and spectators”, he said through social networks.

As anticipation builds towards the Carnival Road March, the Commissioner reiterated his assurances that “…we will be in full force to ensure the safety of all carnival participants and spectators”.

And to those who wish to cause mischief, the Commissioner warned: “…[you] will be held in safe custody until the parade is over. We also urge the general public to do their part to ensure your safety by reporting [any] suspicious person or activity in the police. Remember that your safety is our priority and [prevention] it is always better than the cure.”
