England beat Australia to win their first Commonwealth Games gold medal in women’s hockey, but there was chaos in Birmingham as the athletics program ended on the penultimate day of the 2022 Commonwealth Games on Sunday. England’s women’s team won a dramatic gold in the 4x400m relay, then were disqualified for a lane infringement. Australia, meanwhile, maintained their lead in the medal tally by breaking the mark of 170, six more than England a day earlier.
