Logan Avenue and 10th Street in Tyrone were packed from noon to 5 p.m., Saturday, September 3, as residents enjoyed the ninth annual Tyrone Carnival, organized and hosted by the Community Worship Center. This year’s event offered a combination of many free food items, rides and attractions, including two new additions.
“We brought in a new balloon artist this year and offered ice cream sundaes as a new food item,” said Julie Deal. Daily Herald.
Teenagers, children and adults enjoyed snacks such as hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy and snow cones. Many attendees also enjoyed inflatables such as mini golf and a giant slide, games such as the giant Connect Four and baseball toss, plus activities such as face painting, scavenger hunts and caricatures.
Throughout the day, kids were invited to answer trivia questions for a chance to win gift cards from Walmart, Sheetz, plus other local retailers and the Dialed Action BMX program returned as part of the event.
The carnival ended with prizes such as gift baskets, a hoverboard, an Amazon tablet, and a TV set, all through a free raffle.
Shawna Noel, from Tyrone, had a great time with her three children.
“It’s good for the kids,” Noel said. “It gives them something to do.”
More than 130 volunteers worked at the Tyrone Carnival this year.
“Volunteers served in various areas at the event, including food, games, information booths, the children’s Creative Corner and the large inflatables,” Deal said.
For the tenth anniversary, CWC still plans to host the carnival on the Saturday before Labor Day.
“Our plan is to ensure that the event is always offered completely free of charge as a way to bring hope and unity to our area,” Deal said. “Dedicating a full day specifically to show the love of Jesus to our community.”
