Yesterday, Casa G20, in Ipanema, was the scene for an unforgettable event that celebrated half a century of integration between China and Brazil. The Youyi concert – 50 years of China-Brazil integration – performed by the Chiquinha Gonzaga Youth Symphony Orchestra, under the masterful direction of conductor Priscila Bomfim, captivated everyone present.
The orchestra, an all-female lineup of 45 talented instrumentalists aged 13 to 19, presented a repertoire that paid homage to rich Chinese and Brazilian musical traditions. In the first part of the concert, traditional Chinese works such as Tita Dance (Kang Ba), Yao Dance (Liu Tie-Shan and Mao Yuan), Amo China (Tan Jing), My Motherland and I (Wang Zifei) and The Great. Pisces (Qian Lei) were expertly performed, taking the audience to a universe of oriental melodies and harmonies. The concert was attended by girls from the youth choir of Rio de Janeiro and the talented violinist Catarina Maia, only 10 years old.
In the second part of the event, the orchestra celebrated the diversity and beauty of Brazilian music with exciting performances of O Trenzinho do Caipira (Heitor Villa-Lobos), Ó Abre Alas (Chiquinha Gonzaga) and Feira de Mangaio (Sivuca). The fusion of Chinese and Brazilian sounds at the end of the concert symbolized the union and friendship between the two nations.
The concert was held in two sessions. At 16:00 for students and families of public schools and at 19:00, with the presence of authorities, such as the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China, Mrs. Tian Min, President of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), Mr. Huang YeHua and Representative Aunty Ju, great supporters of the orchestra’s activities.
This unforgettable presentation was made possible thanks to the sponsorship of the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), through the Federal Law on the Promotion of Culture. The night was a true tribute to cultural integration and international cooperation, highlighting the power of music to connect people and celebrate diversity.
