Construction Update on Carnival Cruise Line’s Third New Mega-Ship

The Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, gave a glimpse of the construction process and an update on Carnival Cruise Line’s third Excel-class cruise ship. Carnival jubilee.

The shipyard uses a process called the block construction method, where the ship is put together using different steel blocks. These form large parts of the ship, including the bridge, which was installed on Friday.

Also, the large engine room block arrived at the shipyard from Rostock, Germany, this week and will be fitted once another Excel class ship, P&O Cruises’ Arviamoves to the next stage of its construction.

The modern way in which ships are being built is certainly something that surprises from time to time. This week, the construction of Carnival jubilee received a number of updates, pushing the build time along with German accuracy.

Carnival jubilee is being built at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, and while cutting the first steel AND the laying of the keel is only a few weeks ago, the ship is already looking like a cruise ship. The bridge wings were installed earlier today and at the same time, the FERU unit arrived at the shipyard.

The FERU unit, or floating engine room unit, is just as important as the bridge section of the ship. It houses the power units that will propel the 180,000 gross ton cruise ship. The unit was built at the Neptun shipyard in Rostock, Germany and towed to Meyer Werft, some 400 kilometers away.

In the near future, the FERU unit will join it Carnival jubilee the structure. However, before this happens, P&O Arvia, a sister ship of Carnival jubileewhich is also under construction, will move into the construction equipment phase.

Ninth and last class cruise ship of excellence

Carnival jubilee will be the ninth and last of the Excel class cruise ships when she sets sail. The innovative class of ships has been a game-changer in the cruise industry, both in terms of their low environmental impact due to their LNG use, and facilities and features such as BOLT roller coasters.

In addition to Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, there are excellence class ships sailing for Costa Cruises, Costa Smeralda AND The Tuscan coast; P&O Cruises, ours AND Arvia; and AIDA, AIDAnova AND AIDAcosma.

Originally planned to sail for AIDA Cruises, last year Carnival Corporation decided to transfer Carnival jubilee on the Carnival cruise line. Given the huge success Carnival Cruise Line had Mardi Gras AND excitement building over the Carnival Partythis was no surprise.

jubilee is the first Excel class ship for Carnival built in Germany; her sisters were both built at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. Carnival jubilee is scheduled for her maiden voyage in November of next year from Galveston, Texas.

From her home port in Texas, she will operate seven-day Western Caribbean cruises beginning November 18, 2023, including voyages to Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico and Mahogany Bay in Isa Roatan, Honduras.
