The American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago (AMCHAM T&T) will explore new perspectives on health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) policies by transforming business models and governance to create a culture of safety across companies operating in the sector private.
All initiatives will be discussed at the Chamber’s 26th annual HSSE Conference and Expo, Nov. 1-3, at the Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain.
It will be the first time in two years that participants will be allowed to attend the conference and exhibition in person, while a virtual audience will be able to watch all the conference sessions through the event’s online platform.
AMCHAM chief executive Nirad Tewarie said: “What we are asking is for leaders and professionals to re-imagine how we can use HSSE policies for an ever-evolving world to stay ahead of the curve and, as much as possible, life possible, future-proofed our systems and operations from problems that could affect our lives and businesses.
“What we hope to gain from this year’s conference is an even better understanding of how we can make HSSE more part of our lives to keep our people safe while protecting the natural environment. We therefore need to challenge our thinking on how we can adopt new concepts and tools to improve and advance the way we are handling health and safety in our businesses and in wider society,” added Tewarie.
This year, the conference will feature influential leaders such as Ronald Adams, CEO of Atlantic LNG; David Campbell, president of bpTT; Dominic Rampersad, president of PPGPL; and Eugene Okpere, vice president and country head of Shell Trinidad; along with other industry leaders who will address these and many other important topics.
AMCHAM said that some of the topics and new perspectives to be presented at the conference will at first appear outside the traditional approach to HSSE, but the aim is to increase leadership around these issues and improve the safety culture that may exist. already. in certain organizations.
Topics such as neuroscience, psychological safety, ESG diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) will also be addressed from a health and safety perspective at the conference. The DEI session is moderated by Google’s global head of inclusion for women of color, Stephanie Le Blanc-Godfrey.
While cyber security has been presented during the HSSE Conference in previous years, this is the first time that cyber security as a topic will be presented as a stand-alone session independent of the traditional HSSE sessions of the conference.
“This decision came about due to the increase in cyber attacks both globally and locally in the recent past. Even as our world leans more towards technology, we cannot ignore the threat that exists from the nefarious activities of hackers and other cybercriminals. A digital world requires that we protect our data and keep our people safe to avoid disruption to our lives and businesses. AMCHAM T&T sees this as an opportunity to bring together influential cyber security experts who can provide solutions to significantly reduce and hopefully eliminate the cyber risks many companies face today,” said Tewarie.
