TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The National Football League wrapped up the second week of the regular season on Monday night. Below is a look at how former Alabama players performed.
Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa shined in a 42-38 comeback win against the Baltimore Ravens. Tagovailoa finished 36-of-50 for a career-high 469 yards and six touchdowns. Four of those scores came in the fourth quarter, tying a Dolphins franchise record. For his outstanding performance, the NFL selected Tagovailoa as the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Jaylen Waddle shined along with his signal-caller. The Dolphins wideout recorded 11 receptions for 171 yards and two touchdowns. Perhaps his most important catch of the day came when Tagovailoa found Waddle for a seven-yard touchdown pass in the final minute of the game to seal the victory over the Ravens. Fellow receiver Amari Cooper had a big day for Cleveland against the New York Jets. The Browns receiver caught a team-high nine passes for 101 yards and a touchdown.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts put on a show during a 24-7 Monday Night Football victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Hurts racked up 333 yards and a touchdown on 26-of-31 passing while also rushing 11 times for 57 yards and two touchdowns.
Former Tide defensive players stood out in Week 2, led by Dalvin Tomlinson against Hurts and the Eagles. Tomlinson totaled seven tackles and added half a sack in the nationally televised contest. Also recording a half sack last week was Quinnen Williams. The New York Jets tight end recorded four tackles, including a half-sack, while adding some quarterback pressure.
Da’Ron Payne matched Williams in tackles, recording four for the Washington Commanders. Payne added a sack and a tackle for loss while pressuring the quarterback twice on the day. Rounding out the defensive positions was Christian Barmore of the New England Patriots. Barmore posted two tackles, one of which was a sack, and also pressured the quarterback once.
