The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts said the headline “Carnival is on” in the Daily Express is misleading and has generated negative reactions from stakeholders.
The ministry said it proposed a “Carnival Flavor” that would include specific types of carnival activities for vaccinated people only in safe zone arrangements deemed to pose the least public health risk in the context of the ongoing pandemic. COVID-19.
These carnival type activities include, Calypso, Soca, Extempo, Chutney and Steel Pan shows and competitions which are usually held during the carnival season.
“The Ministry has not proposed to hold Carnival in its true sense nor has it attempted to mislead anyone in terms of its proposal that safe carnival activities be held during the Carnival season,” the Ministry said.
“At the Ministry, we acknowledge the difficulties that the events industry and all cultural workers are experiencing, as shown recently by our valued actors. And in this regard, we continue to work together, as we have always done, to to bring relief and to consider and implement proposals for an early but safe and prudent restart for the entire entertainment industry.”
The Ministry acknowledged that these events proposed in its Taste of Carnival 2022 proposal cannot and are not a substitute for the many opportunities and events that a full Carnival celebration offers.
