CWI, Cricket Ireland announce new tour schedule

The second ODI between West Indies and Ireland will be played on Thursday after the visiting team was crippled by COVID-19 and injuries.

The only T20I match has also been cancelled.

West Indies won the series opener by 24 runs on Sunday, and the second match was to be played on Tuesday.

However, Ireland have five players out due to positive COVID-19 tests, and two players have sustained injuries.

The postponement of the second ODI was announced on Monday, while the decision to host the match on Thursday was revealed on Tuesday morning.

Cricket West Indies and Cricket Ireland jointly confirmed the move also announced that the third and final ODI would be played on Sunday.

“The reinstatement comes after five positive cases of COVID-19 as well as injuries in the Ireland camp leaving Ireland’s squad depleted ahead of the 2nd CG Insurance ODI originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 11,” a joint announcement from the CWI and Cricket Ireland said.

“Consequently, the CG Insurance T20 International has been canceled once to allow for this revised schedule and to avoid impacting teams’ travel plans and subsequent matches,” the release added.
