CWI look for alternate plan as WI, India squad members yet to get US visas for Florida T20Is

Both India and West Indies faced the same situation in 2016 as well.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) is planning backup options to host the last two T20Is against India. The last two matches of the ongoing five-match T20I series are scheduled to be played at Central Broward Regional Park in Florida, USA on August 6 and 7. But news reports suggest that personnel from both teams have yet to receive US time travel visas. So now CWI is planning to host both games in the Caribbean as their plan B.

On Sunday, a CWI source revealed that players from both teams had to collect their travel documents in St Kitts, where both teams have arrived for the next two matches. Now it looks like both teams have to go back to Trinidad to get their paperwork and if they are cleared then they can head to the US.

“Having games in the Caribbean is unlikely, but efforts are being made to resolve the visa issue,” a West Indies Cricket source told Cricbuzz.

Cricket West Indies is exploring other options to host India in the last two T20Is

Due to uncertainty in the last two matches, Cricket West Indies is already exploring other options but remains in search of visas for both teams. Both teams faced the same situation in 2016 when the players received their travel documents to the US late. Interestingly, both teams were scheduled to play two matches in Florida, which is the only ICC-certified cricket stadium in the US.

“There are options being considered as we continue to pursue outstanding visa opportunities,” said Ricky Skerritt, CWI president.

India lead the five-match series 1-0 after beating the hosts by 68 runs in First T20I match at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago. The hosts will look for a comeback in the next match scheduled at Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts on Monday.
