CWI receives T20 World Cup review

The three-member independent panel appointed to review the performance of the West Indies team in the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup has submitted its report to Cricket West Indies (CWI).

The committee, comprising umpire Patrick Thompson Jr, South Africa international coach Mickey Arthur and West Indies cricket legend Brian Lara, was appointed after the regional team failed to make it to the main draw of the tournament.

West Indies, winners of the tournament in 2012 and 2016, lost to Scotland and Ireland and were eliminated at the qualifying stage.

The review was announced following the debacle, which saw coach Phil Simmons and captain Nicholas Pooran resign.

CWI President Ricky Skerritt confirmed receipt of the report and spoke of the quality of the submission.

“The quality of this report enables it to become the foundation of the culture of learning and planning that we envision for the sustainable improvement of all our cricket teams,” said the former West Indies team manager.

“It brings great promise and direction after the heavy disappointment of our T20 World Cup results,” Skerritt added.

The CWI president said the panel interviewed more than 30 players, coaches, administrators, directors and other stakeholders in compiling the report.

“The independent panel’s report has been shared with the CWI Board of Directors and I look forward to the Board agreeing to implement the 34 recommendations as soon as possible,” said Skerritt.

Cricket West Indies has posted a link to download the report on their website windiescricket.com.
