Dead Men Tales: National Trust to host cemetery tours

The National Trust of Trinidad and Tobago invites members of the public to attend the upcoming Cemetery Chronicles: Tales of the Dead Edition tour.

These tours explore popular cemeteries in Port of Spain and San Fernando. On Saturday, September 3 and Saturday, September 17, the Lapeyrouse Cemetery Tour will tell the stories behind the people buried at this historic Port of Spain landmark.

This cemetery is the final resting place of loved ones, prominent figures of our past, babies and cholera victims who were buried anonymously. Generations of history, sadness, mourning, grief and pride all collide within this cemetery.

Paradise Cemetery in San Fernando captures the essence of the southern city by telling the stories of its rise, its challenges and its past glories.

This tour aims to show it all and reveal a lot about San Fernando’s economy, culture and society. It also includes some stories from remote areas like Fyzabad, Piparo, the village of the ancestors and more. On Saturday, September 10, join us to learn about all the hidden and buried stories of Paradise Cemetery.

Although the cemetery is a scary place, it is one of the most valuable places in our country. It is important to remember those who are long gone. Those who lived their lives left their legacy and are now at peace.

These Graveyard Chronicle tours are just $75 for National Trust members and $125 for non-members.

Members of the public are invited to call the National Foundation at 225-4750 between 9am and 4pm (Monday – Friday) or head to their website for more information or a quick and easy reservation in the Internet.
