ROSEMONT, Ill. Michigan State women’s soccer player Lauren DeBeau took home Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors after her historic hat trick, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
The senior forward led the charge in MSU’s 3-0 win over Illinois to open Big Ten play on Sept. 18, scoring all three of her goals in a span of 11 minutes, two seconds. The three-goal effort enters the Spartan record books as the fastest hat trick in program history. Additionally, DeBeau’s hat trick follows another MSU hat trick a week ago by Camryn Evanswho scored three of the Spartans’ four goals in an upset of No. 19 Colorado on Sept. 11. The two hat tricks mark the first time different MSU players have scored three goals in back-to-back games.
DeBeau, a native of Shelby Township, Michigan, takes home the first Big Ten weekly award of her career as well as the fifth Big Ten Player of the Week award for Michigan State this season. MSU has already collected the second-most weekly awards in a single season with five so far in 2022 and needs just one more award to match the program record of six set during the 2008 campaign.
The Spartans are riding a 6-1-2 overall record along with a 1-0 start in Big Ten conference play after the conference opener at Illinois. MSU has opened conference action undefeated in each of the last three seasons and has started 1-0 in B1G games in both of the head coach’s seasons. Jeff Hoslerhis mandate.
The Green & White return home to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes at DeMartin Stadium on Thursday, September 22nd. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM at DeMartin Stadium at Old College Field, with the league game set for worldwide broadcast via B1G+
