Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred in the Wilmington area Tuesday morning.
On September 13, 2022, at approximately 6:14 a.m., a white 2020 Ram 3500 pickup truck was traveling southbound on Interstate 95 south of US Route 202 (Concord Pike) through a construction zone, where the leftmost lane of I -95. closed. For unknown reasons, Ram entered the closed lane and collided with some construction barrels. The truck continued south, struck a road sign and entered the construction zone entry point. The front of the Ram then collided with a sliding paver, where it came to rest and caught fire.
The truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene. At this moment, the identification of the victim is awaited. No other vehicles were involved in this incident and no injuries were reported. There were no construction workers actively working at the time of the crash.
Southbound I-95 and southbound Concord Pike were closed for about 10 hours while the crash was investigated and the road was cleared.
