Denbar spins his way to Police Sportsman of the Year 2022

Constable (PC) Kenneth Denbar picked up his second major award in just under two weeks when he won the Police Sportsman of the Year 2022 award at the annual police awards and dinner. He had earlier that month received the Regional Cricketer of the Year award from the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association.

Denbar is an off-spinner whose professional cricket career began with the Windward Island Volcanoes Franchise as a contracted player in July 2019.

After a long break from the game due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Denbar was selected to play in the West Indies Cricket Super-50 Regional Tournament in Antigua and Barbuda in 2021.

On his debut against the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, he finished with figures of 6.3 overs, 1 maiden, 34 runs and 1 wicket. The sub-regional selectors were impressed with his performance in that tournament and he was selected to play in the 2022 West Indies Regional 4-Day Championship in Trinidad and Tobago.

Against the Guyana Harpy Eagles at Queen’s Park Oval, Denbar took his maiden 5-wicket haul and achieved his personal best bowling figures at the same time, finishing with match figures of 44 overs, 4 maidens, 116 runs , 9 gates.

He finished the tournament as the leading wicket-taker for the Windward Island Volcanoes, and fifth in the tournament for most wickets overall.

In October 2022, he was selected to represent the Windward Islands Volcanoes in the Regional Super-50 Tournament played in Trinidad and Tobago. Once again, he shone and finished with another personal best bowling figures of 2 for 46 from his 10 overs.

At its annual awards on 21 December 2022, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVGCA) recognized Kenneth Denbar’s outstanding performances in regional cricket in 2022 by naming him the Regional Cricketer of the Year.

And, on Friday, December 30, 2022, the Royal St. John’s Police Force. Vincent and the Grenadines (RSVGPF) recognized his achievements by presenting PC 178 Kenneth Denbar with the 2022 Police Sportsman of the Year Award.

Denbar, who is currently attached to the Fire Department, registered with the RSVGPF on September 1, 2014.
