About twenty-seven (27) Puerto Rican passengers remain stranded at the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, the capital of Spain, Madrid, after the Iberia airline closed the door a few minutes earlier than expected.
“We are a group of 27 Puerto Ricans who missed a flight to Amsterdam, Netherlands, due to the chaotic situation at Schiphol Airport and the inefficiency of Iberia Airlines. Yesterday Iberia gave us a ‘rebooking’ to Madrid but told us there is no room to return to PR until August 13th. In the group there are people who are out of medication for our conditions and a juvenile diabetic who is running out of insulin. We demand that Iberia take responsibility and return us to Puerto Rico as soon as possible. If something happens to one of us and it’s us, Iberia will be to blame,” one of the blocked people, identified as Heidi Reyes-Ramírez, published on her social networks.
According to the information that emerged, the airline stopped the departure of the flight to unload the luggage of the 27 passengers instead of boarding them to Puerto Rico. Among the group stranded at the airport are several patients in need of medical attention and drug supplies.
Additionally, it reports that all 27 passengers purchased travel packages from Madrid Travel to Puerto Rico by calling (787) 756-8590, which does not answer when calling from Spain. You can call one of the travelers identified as Gissel Ramírez with a cell phone at 787-590-4298.
