We are looking for a Director of Architecture with a high level of creativity, talent and experience to lead and work on the design and execution of complex high profile projects throughout the Latin American region, from concept to execution and realization. We are interested in finding an innovative professional who can fit into Mallol’s culture of success, with extensive experience in the field of architecture, overseeing all aspects related to the design of the firm’s projects, including client relations, “project management” and other administrative management tasks.
We are looking for a leader immersed in all aspects related to sustainability, committed to follow new designs and business strategies, to develop and increase the level of knowledge in his team, in terms of: design, efficiency of energy, water conservation and waste management. He is responsible for Mallol’s architectural quality and design line.
Within the main responsibilities of the Director of Architecture are the following categories:
design
- Leads the conceptualization of all projects
- Coordinate with clients to determine design requirements, including reviewing sketches and designs together.
- Oversee and be responsible for design, presentations, layouts, project development and deliverables schedule, providing design direction and consistently ensuring the highest quality
- Experience in AIA design phases: conceptual, schematic, drafting and construction documents
- High degree of knowledge of construction materials, construction methodologies, integration of engineering disciplines, cost studies, bids, cost calculations, quotes, terms of reference and coding.
- Present design ideas and concepts in a way that meets the expectations of the client as well as the other “key stakeholders” involved in the projects.
PROJECT COORDINATION
- Manage communication with contractors to ensure projects are being executed successfully, resolving issues that may arise during all phases of the project.
- Establish project requirements to manage resources effectively and efficiently.
- Lead preliminary land surveys to meet all client expectations.
COMMERCIAL ADMINISTRATION
- Identify business opportunities, trends, new customers, markets, technologies and international design standards
- Coach the team when they’re “out of flow,” removing barriers and solving problems with creative, timely solutions that generate great work experiences
- Establish and maintain solid business relationships with clients that drive significant billing growth
- Take on new projects through leadership in design competitions and proposals.
- Set expectations with clients based on milestones, billing, schedule, budget and scope of projects to be developed.
- Evaluate and provide input on architecture team practice and firm performance objectives
- Supply the management system with all information on achieving projects on time and ensuring that each project progresses in accordance with the contract and deliverables plan.
- Prepares opex and capex budget for his area of responsibility
- Negotiate terms and conditions of contracts with clients, ensuring the profitability of projects together with the director of operations
- Evaluate and monitor contracts, budgets and goals established by the Operations Department for all its projects.
OPERATIONAL PERFECTION
- Lead and manage the firm’s entire team of project architects, designers and developers, adhering to quality project management guidelines
- Collaborate with all your team members and other teams and area managers to ensure projects are developed and completed on time and within budget
- Work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining first class time management, service excellence and broad business orientation
- Build trust with customers, suppliers, consultants and contractors to maintain excellent relationships that translate into satisfaction for all parties involved
Requirements to be the Director of Architecture in Mallol:
- Bachelor of Science in Architecture
- Master’s degree in the field of Architecture/Project Management
- More than 15 years of experience
- High degree of sensitivity and understanding of design and the history of architecture in general
- Hands-on experience of 2D/3D software (AutoCAD / Revit / Rhino / etc.)
- Knowledge and experience in the creative phase and conceptual/schematic design of residential projects, residential towers, mixed-use projects, corporates, shopping malls, educational centers, cultural centers, transportation terminals, hospitals, infrastructure projects and other mega projects
- Focused on service excellence
- Advanced written and spoken knowledge of Spanish and English.
- Excellent design and presentation skills to generate creative ideas and solutions with a strong detail orientation.
- Problem Solving: The ability to solve problems by finding solutions to challenges that arise during the design phases.
- Organizational skills that allow for project tracking, effective delegation and empowerment of team members.
- Proven design experience in more than 3 countries (may be substituted by major cities) in the Americas, preferably in Latin America.
- Understanding and exposure to multicultural environments
- Leadership skills to motivate the team and cultivate an effective and efficient work philosophy that generates results and employee satisfaction.
- Verbal and written communication skills both to address the team to successfully convey ideas to clients and vice versa
