AN unbeaten knock of 56 by Djenaba Joseph propelled Trinidad and Tobago to a comfortable seven-wicket lead in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Women’s Under-19 Rising T20 against Barbados at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba on Wednesday .
Sent into bat, Barbados reached 113 for two in their 20 overs. The hosts, however, proved superior and rallied to their second win in as many matches by racing to a 115/3 win from 17.1 overs.
Barbados openers Trishan Holder (32) and Zaliya Campbell (27 not out) built a fine opening stand of 49 before the former was run out by Maria La Foucade.
Naijanni Cumberbatch (duck) then fell after just two balls faced, caught by Amelia Khan off the spin of skipper Shalini Samaroo.
Campbell then combined with eventual top scorer Asabi Callender (34 not out) to take the visitors to 113/2.
On their side at the crease, TT lost both openers Shunelle Sawh (five) and Samaroo (12) for 18. Samara Ramnath (nine) followed soon after.
But Joseph’s introduction in the middle saw him sit with Aniaya Roberts (15 not out) to lead TT over the line and remain perfect after the opening two matches. Jozefi hit nine to four from her 33 balls faced.
On Tuesday, Samaroo (63) and Sawh’s 53 not out were integral in securing a first-match win for TT over Leeward Islands.
In Wednesday’s other games, the USA also maintained an unblemished record by sweeping past the Windward Islands Volcanoes by eight wickets at the Diego Martin Sports Complex, Diego Martin. Guyana also defeated the Leewards by a margin of ten wickets.
TT return to action against Jamaica at Diego Martin on Saturday from 9.30am.
