Even as West Bengal was broadcasting its Durga Puja carnival live across the world on Saturday, especially after Bengal’s biggest festival got the UNESCO International Cultural Heritage tag, hours later, another unfortunate incident put the police on the spot and it was a case. with concern
CONTROVERSY ABOUT THE DISPLAY OF THE FLAG
According to reports, there has been communal tension in Mominpur since late Saturday. A dispute is said to have started over the display of communal flags on the occasion of Miladun-Nabi. Violence broke out on Sunday. Incidents of vandalism, stone throwing and bomb throwing were reported. Several vehicles were damaged. A large number of police personnel were deployed late at night and the Ekbalpur police station area was cordoned off. The Rapid Action Force (RAF) has also been deployed. The proactive opposition BJP in West Bengal took hardly any time to soak in the crisis. As soon as the incident took place, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding “immediate deployment of central forces following the violence in Mominpur and the looting of Ekbalpur police station to control the law and order situation. “I have written to Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri @ Amit Shah Ji and Hon’ble Governor Shri La Ganesan Ji requesting them to urgently deploy Central Forces after Mominpur violence and Ekbalpur Police Station robbery before Law situation and Order. of the WB is out of control,” the BJP leader tweeted. “I am compelled to write this letter to you at this hour because the gravity of the situation has prompted this urgency. The Hindu community has been attacked in Khidderpore area Kolkata’s Mominpur on the eve of Lakshmi Puja. Many shops and bicycles belonging to Hindus were vandalized by hooligans and anti-socials.The attack bears similarities to the Panchla violence that took place in June in Uluberia area of Howrah district. At that time violence spread throughout West Bengal, especially in Nadia and Murshidabad districts,” the letter said.
Adhikari wrote that he realized that since the West Bengal government is reluctant to act against the perpetrators this time again as they belong to a particular community, this time again it might flare up and start spreading across the state resulting in losses. lives and property; both Public and Private. The State Government has already meekly surrendered in the face of the wrath of the goons, who have occupied the Ekbalpur police station, he added. If the morning shows the day, then the day is definitely gloomy. Please find the attached video of the incident as well as some footage of the vandalism, he said. Meanwhile, a war of words erupted between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition BJP on Monday over clashes between the two groups in Kolkata’s KhidderporeMominpur area that left several injured. The saffron camp alleged that law and order has deteriorated in West Bengal, drawing a sharp retort from the ruling TMC, which accused the BJP of trying to disrupt the state’s atmosphere. BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar, who tried to visit the area, was detained and arrested on Monday. Police said clashes broke out between two groups in the Khidderpore-Mominpur area on Sunday evening over some local issues, in which several people were injured. The agitators also staged a protest outside the Ekbalpur police station. Police personnel including those from the Rapid Action Force (RAF) were deployed to the area. Majumdar, who wanted to visit the area, was stopped in Chingrighata area of north Kolkata and asked to return as Prohibitory Orders under Section 144 of CrPC were placed in the area. “Sukanta Majumdar was later arrested and taken to Lalbazar police headquarters,” said a senior police official. Hitting out at the saffron camp for allegedly trying to spoil the state’s atmosphere, senior TMC leader Sougata Roy said the police had taken all necessary steps to bring the situation under control. “The fraudsters have been arrested. What is Sukanta Majumdar going to do going there other than giving hate speech? BJP is trying to spoil the atmosphere of the state. The BJP should stop politicizing every incident,” Roy said.
