‘Dusty’ PH driver gets $80K bail for beating woman with cricket bat

A 42-year-old St James man was granted $80,000 bail by a Justice of the Peace (JP) on Wednesday after being charged with malicious wounding and assault by beating a woman.

Dusty Joseph, a taxi driver in PH, was granted bail by JP Stephen Young on Wednesday.

He is scheduled to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate on February 28.

Reports say the 18-year-old victim was with a friend at the corner of Henry Street and Independence Square, Port of Spain on January 19, when she got into a verbal altercation with a PH taxi driver.

During the incident, the man knocked the woman’s phone out of her hands using a cricket bat. He also hit his face and lower back with a weapon.

Video of the incident went viral on social media and was brought to the attention of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).

The victim then reported to the police and was arrested on Tuesday.

Joseph was charged by PC Felix of Central Police Station on Wednesday.
