With this presentation being his second runway show during New York Fashion Week, Edwin Thompson has proven his talent – once again – for the Spring/Summer 2023 collection of his brand Theophilio.
Already a winner of the CFDA American Designer of the Year Award, Thompson’s new collection shined a spotlight on his Jamaican heritage and celebrated the carnival aspects of black culture as well as the 1970s – in the form of headdresses embellished with feathers, threads, Apple Jack hats and pants with flared legs.
Jeweled tops, bedazzled dresses and gilded leather helped signal a cause for celebration and “Black Joy” on the runway, while color palettes of yellow, green, teal, white, purple and denim included leather pants with two shades, bias cut paper- slim dresses and cropped blouses. Personal branding also played a key role in the collection, as striking t-shirts bearing the phrase “I Love TP” appeared in various colors.
As a brand that passionately produces luxury ready-to-wear items for men and women, a show of genderless creations vied for a position at the forefront – seen in champagne colored jackets and skirts, shimmering tanks and intimate wear.
Elsewhere in fashion, Willy Chavarria took NYFW to the church for Spring/Summer 2023.
