Currently, we see Twitter’s paid blue account walking on thin ice as the firm tries to figure out how it can control the non-stop attack and abuse perpetrated by so many impersonators.
However, the app means business and is really trying hard to create a new revenue stream that would rely less on ads and more on subscriptions.
Yesterday, we saw Musk talking in his Tweet about how the firm would enable organizations to identify which other Twitter accounts are linked to them. And by that, he meant that the organization would be given much more control over the various linked accounts while Twitter was at the helm.
It is still not clear if this tool will be paid for by the firm or if it would be an exclusive privilege offered to those who have the paid blue level. As it is, so much uncertainty surrounds the topic of Twitter verification and the blue ticker that it has been put on hold thanks to the controversy that has been brewing for so long. People are literally so confused about what is going on and they don’t even know where to start.
If things go as planned, Twitter’s plan as outlined in the tweets is tied to Twitter Blue and other such services that have been suspended thanks to the impersonation coming back later this week. Thus begins the waiting game.
Twitter and its new owners have really thrown a lot of doubt into people’s minds about how much chaos surrounds the future of the platform. Today, it is operating with half the number of employees as the workforce was reduced by a significant margin.
There is a new business model that also relates to subscriptions, advertising and paywalls. Therefore, a lot is being done and some are published while others not so much. We’ve seen Twitter expand to high levels, then get trolled and finally abused. In just one week.
So we are now waiting for Musk to introduce this and when he does, we would like to see the response of the firms regarding the new linked verification and whether it is being received positively or not.
This feature would make it easier to track those and report others who are not connected to the app. And when it’s a success, Twitter would charge organizations as a premium service.
