England women sweep Windies women 3-0

England Women completed a comprehensive 3-0 sweep of West Indies Women on Friday in Antigua after a 151-run victory in the third ODI.

Again, West Indies’ poor batting stood out as they were restricted to 105 for 9 in 37.3 overs, with Shakera Selman unable to bat.

Skipper Hayley Matthews top-scored with 28, while twins Kyshona Knight (13) and Kycia Knight (11) were the only other scorers to reach double figures.

Orthodox left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone took 3 for 9, while seamer Natalie Sciver took 2 for 16 for England Women.

Earlier, England were bowled out for 256 in 43.3 overs, with Selman taking 3 for 29 and Matthews taking 3 for 56.

Kaysia Schultz had 2 for 52 for West Indies.

West Indies coach Courtney Walsh admitted his team had been outplayed in the series.

“It was a poor series from us, we didn’t play the kind of cricket we wanted to play, England beat us. I know we can play better cricket than that, so I’m disappointed. In the last two games we played and played better; we have to focus everything now on the T20 series,” said Walsh.

“We have to make sure we get something out of this series as we have a tri-series and the World Cup early next year. What is pleasing to me is the bowling we were able to do in the last two matches,” he added.

Walsh said he was pleased with Matthews’ captaincy and her rotation of bowlers.

He noted other positives in the series.

“The key takeaway was that Rashada Williams had two good performances with the bat. And Kaysia Schultz’s debut, she’s been around the team for a long time so we wanted to see how she performed, so it was really nice to see her get two early. gate, it’s only going to get better from this exposure and experience,” Walsh said.

West Indies Women suffered losses by identical margins of 142 runs in the first two matches of the series.

The T20I series begins on Sunday at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua.
