The ‘Poor and Boasy’ entertainer pleaded guilty to fraud charges when he appeared at Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
He will return in November when a social inquiry report is expected to be submitted.
The deejay, whose name is Omar Johnson, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud, uttering forged documents and obtaining money by false pretenses.
‘Poor and Boasy’ reportedly collected US$1,000 from a deejay who asked him to convert the money into Jamaican dollars. The deejay from whom Poor and Boasy collected the money is alleged to have returned from abroad after performing a show.
‘Poor and Boasy’ then allegedly gave the money he collected in a sealed envelope to the complainant and received J$70,000 in return. It was later found that all the invoices received by the complainant had the same serial number.
A police report was made and ‘Poor and Boasy’ was arrested and charged.
Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague would place a restraining order on the artist, which would have prevented him from leaving the country. However, the ‘Poor and Boasy’, who was without a lawyer, begged the judge for a break as he has an upcoming show in Trinidad.
She declined to issue a restraining order, saying she did not want to prevent the artist from making a living, but the entertainer must report weekly to the Half-Way-Tree Police Station.
