Equinox, carnival & a plant sale: Five things to know in Glocester this week

PRIMARY

Today, Tuesday, September 13 is the statewide primary, with voting hours running from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Voters can find their polling location and see their sample ballots here.

The city is warning residents that their voting districts may have changed due to the redistricting and has also released a map outlining the new boundaries. There will be no primaries this year for the Glocester City Council and School Committee races, but voters in both political parties have choices in many statewide races.

Yard and plant sales

The Glocester Heritage Society will hold a Master Gardeners Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, September 17 at the Job Armstrong Store at 1181 Putnam Pike Chepachet. The event will be held in conjunction with a yard sale, which will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Autumnal Equinox

Dragonfly Apothecary will be holding a Mabon celebration in the bar next to the business at 15 Money Hill Road on Saturday, September 17 from 11am to 5pm In ancient times Mabon was a celebration of the second harvest, or autumnal equinox , when farmers gathered abundant foods such as squash, pumpkins, grapes and apples.

The business will host psychics, tarot readers, local vendors and artisans at the event.

Carnival

The Chepachet Union Church at 1138 Putnam Pike will kick off Sunday School this year with their annual carnival and rally day on Sunday, September 18th. Visitors of all ages are welcome to the event with games, fun and enjoyment.

Sunday school will be held in the church every Sunday during the 9 a.m. service.

Town meetings

The Glocester Housing Authority will hold a monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 13 at 8:30 a.m. in the Pine Meadow Community Room at 56 Victory Highway. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Land Trust will hold a meeting on Tuesday, September 13 starting at 7pm at Glocester Town Hall. The agenda is here.

Glocester Town Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on Thursday, September 15 starting at 7.30pm at Glocester Town Hall. The agenda is expected to be published on the website of the RI Secretary of State at least 48 hours in advance.
