The Rio 2022 festival already has a date. The 24th edition of the event will take place between October 6 and 16.

Registration for Première Brasil is also open. Brazilian producers will be able to submit their films until June 30 in this form. Selected productions will be announced by August 12.

“In 2022, we return to our traditional month of production, in October. This year we will come even stronger. We are happy to prepare a powerful festival, again in our excellent editions. Première Brasil”, emphasizes Ilda Santiago, executive director of programming at the Rio Festival.

For 2022, the Rio Festival has the master sponsorship of Shell. In this partnership, the city of Rio de Janeiro and FUNARJ are joined by multinationals.

The Rio festival was established in 1999 and, since then, has established itself as one of the main film screenings in the world calendar and one of the biggest showcases of Brazilian production.

In 2021, the event happened again in person. Première Brasil featured award-winning titles such as Medusa, by Anita Rocha da Silveira (winner of the Savior Trophy for Best Feature Film), A Viagem de Pedro, by Laís Bodanzky, Medida Provisoria, by Lázaro Ramos, among others. Due to its international programs – the Panorama do Cinema Mundial show – throughout its history, the Rio Festival has already brought to Brazil names such as Louis Malle, Dario Argento, Masahiro Kobayashi, Stephen Frears, François Ozon, Luca Guadagnino, as well as actors . such as Helen Mirren, Isabelle Huppert, Samuel L. Jackson, Forest Whitaker, Ricardo Darín, Willem Dafoe, among many others.

The Rio Festival is a Cinema do Rio production. And it has the main sponsorship of Shell, through the Federal Promotion Law for Culture, and the City Hall of Rio de Janeiro, through Rio Filme, a body that integrates the Secretariat of Government and Public Integrity and the support of FUNARJ.
