CLEVELAND, Ohio — They came for the candy, but they stayed for the bubbles.
Hundreds of children attended the Halloween Wellness Carnival Friday afternoon at St. Mary’s Charity Medical Center. Vincent in Cleveland. The children, grades K-8, came from nearby schools throughout the two-hour event on the lawn outside the medical center.
In addition to the goodies for the kids, there were activities that included bowling, tic-tac-tac-toe with beanbags and hula hoops, but everyone’s favorite for the kids was the giant bubbles. The kids couldn’t get enough of the bubbles as they ran from bubble to bubble, trying to pop them as they swam across the lawn.
There were also many booths with hospital healthcare workers and local community volunteers offering health checks for adults; bags filled with home care goods; materials on healthy living and foods.
The Friday carnival was moved outside a few years ago due to Covid. That wasn’t a problem Friday, as the temperature was in the upper 50s and mostly sunny.
The carnival – which has been running for more than a decade – was the last carnival for the hospital, as it is closing its hospital service on November 15. Some outpatient and primary care services will remain.
