Flooding in several areas Wednesday

A combination of the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and a low-level trough resulted in rain, thunderstorms and thunderstorms in TT on Wednesday.

Northeast Trinidad bore the brunt of the bad weather, with flooding reported on Old Arima Road, Old Tumpuna Road, Malabar and the Eastern Main Road in Arouca, as well as Congo Hill Trace in Barrackpore. Parts of the priority bus route were also reported to be experiencing flooding.

The Guanapo River at Manuel Congo Road, Tumpuna South, the Caroni River at Tumpuna Road, San Raphael and the Arouca River near Arouca Road overflowed their banks

SWRHA closed six health centers due to bad weather. These were in Moruga, Rochard Douglas, Todd’s Road, Flanagin, Tabaquite and Lengua.

Councilor for Biche/Charuma, Charlene Moona said the heavy rain that started in the early hours of the morning resulted in flooding in some areas.

“There was flooding in Plum Mitan, Cushe and Lasalle areas. The disaster management unit has been out all day helping to get people who would have gone to work back home. At Plum Mitan, the road became impassable, so we provided a truck and workers were there to help them across.”

The Met Office TT issued two yellow weather warnings from 02:00 on Wednesday. He said that periods of rain and/or rains of varying intensity have been observed since early morning. The alarm was called off at 4:51 p.m. Wednesday.
