Now Kilmeade has released a statement on Twitter, telling viewers he wanted to make sure they were aware it was “not true”.
“Last night while we were signing for Tucker Carlson, we showed you an image of Judge Bruce Reinhart with Ghislaine Maxwell that was screen-grabbed from a Twitter meme and it wasn’t real.” the post said. “This description was never developed and we wanted to make it clear that we were showing a joking meme.”
Republicans have been highly critical of Reinhart for signing the search warrant. And a barrage of online attacks have flooded right-wing message boards and social media platforms like 4Chan since Reinhart was identified as the judge who approved the FBI’s warrant to search former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a residence -Lago.
He has come under fire for serving as a defense attorney representing the employees of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and Reinhart is also facing a flood of anti-Semitic attacks and threats online.
Part of this rhetoric is also aimed at the synagogue where he belongs.
Trump and his allies have suggested, without evidence, that the search warrant was politically motivated. Some conservative commentators, including on Fox News, have floated baseless conspiracy theories suggesting that FBI agents planted the evidence.
