According to Minister Camille Robinson-Regis, on Independence night, Republic Day night in Trinidad and the night of September 23rd in Tobago, three ‘Together Concerts’ will be held.
“These concerts are showcases of our cultural manifestations consisting of our indigenous expressions, guidelines for our deepest and most sincere aspirations for unity and solidarity as a people. Remembering our national words “Together we aspire, together we achieve”, each concert will begin with a smoke ceremony conducted by the First Peoples of Trinidad and Tobago and will feature premium artists from various cultural aspects synonymous with Trinidad and Tobago -s like – Calypso, Soca, Chutney, Parang, Parang Soca, Rhythm Sections, Steel Orchestras and Soloists.”
These festive events, the Ministry says, will provide moments of reflection on what it means to be Trinbagonian, as stepping stones to generate and nurture national pride.
Several cultural, artistic exhibitions and other events have been organized for the 60th anniversary celebrations, these include a Patriotic Song Competition, a Patriotic Essay Competition for school students and other youth to participate.
The Cultural Caravan will traverse the entire country and will present renowned national artists and performers from the area.
Whitehall@60 – will feature a graphic display of the nation’s history using Whitehall as a backdrop. This will take place over three days and the public will also be treated to a concert featuring saxophonists, tenors, baritones and steel choirs and soloists.
A national pan concert titled “Pan On Higher Note” will take place from August 5 to 7.
A multimedia art exhibition will also be organized by the Prime Minister at Milles Fleur, Stollmeyer Castle and the Archbishop’s House.
In Tobago there will be the illumination of the Shaw Park Complex and the Buccoo Boardwalk and Tobago will also host its inaugural Independence Dinner along with a series of exhibitions.
