From Tuesday, she will take over from Boris Johnson as leader of the Conservative party and has pledged to focus on the current cost of living crisis.

The result has prompted many to share their opinions online, including Monty Python legend John Cleese.

Taking to his Twitter account today, the 82-year-old shared a response to Liz stating that it was an “honour” for her to become the country’s next leader.

He wrote: “Liz Truss says it’s an honor to be elected leader of the Conservative Party. No, it’s not.”

John added in another Tweet: “I had always hoped that Boris would lead the Tories to a debacle at the next election.

“But the last two weeks have assured me that Truss will do the job very well.”
