NEW ORLEANS – Fifth year Marshall University volleyball Kaitlyn Gehler was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, the league office announced.
Gehler had an impressive weekend for the Herd at the Miami Invitational, totaling 70 digs and 12 assists. The Herd went 2-1 on the week and won the tournament championship with Gehler earning all-tournament team honors. She came up with 15 digs in a 3-0 win against Bellarmine on Friday morning before going on to 25 digs in a five-set loss to Miami (OH) later that day. Gehler shined in a win against Middle Tennessee State on Saturday with a season-high 30 digs and six assists. She is currently the Sun Belt leader in digs per set with 5.82.
Marshall is back in action on Friday when he hosts the Marshall Invite. The Herd’s first game of the tournament is scheduled for Friday at 6:00 PM against Charleston Southern at the Cam Henderson Center.
