Grenada: The Ministry of Sports/D Sports Shop Netball tournament for secondary schools resumed on Thursday October 20 with much fanfare after a two-year hiatus.

The opening of the tournament included a short ceremony and the Mars Pass. Nineteen schools will participate in the tournament.

The Minister of State for Youth, Sport and Culture, Ron Redhead, declared the tournament open.

Other speakers at the ceremony included Permanent Secretary in charge of Sport and Youth Culture Norman Gilbert, Curriculum Officer in charge of Physical Education Denva Welsh, Grenada Netball Association Vice President Jennifer Jacobs-Cato and Sponsor and manager of D’s Sport Shop , Victor Daniel.

The tournament started with two matches in the senior category of the eastern areas.

  • First Place High Anglican – 186 points
  • Second place Saint David Catholic High School – 177 points
  • Third Place Boca High School – 170 points

The next match will be on Wednesday, October 26, 2022. The tournament will run until November 30, 2022. Anglican High School are the reigning champions in all categories.

Emmanuel Stewart will graduate on Saturday from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus, Barbados with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Science.

Stewart is one of the region’s leading young cricketers and the former captain of the West Indies U-19 team at the 2018 ICC World Cup.

The ceremony is held for the University complex from 10:00.

Stewart is currently recovering from a finger injury which has kept him out of competitive cricket for several months.

However, he hopes to return to competitive action for the Windward Islands in the 50-over super tournament, which will be played in Antigua and Trinidad and Tobago from next month to December.

Among those expected to attend the ceremony are his mother, Evelyn Stewart, and mentor and friend Nigel James, who is from the same Dover community but resides in Vancouver, Canada.
