Guyana Amazon Warriors, fancied long before the start of the tournament, lost to the Tallawahs. The Patriots and Amazon Warriors were due to meet on September 4, but the game never took place thanks to the weather in St Kitts. Barring the rain — and battling the elements is a matchup in itself — the Patriots will have to overcome the Amazon Warriors’ multiple spin attack. Tabraiz Shamsi and Imran Tahir, two of the world’s best in T20 cricket, are supported by the home left-arm slow Gutakesh Motie.
Motie went for just 2.5 runs an over taking 2 for 10 from the toss in the defeat by the Tallawahs, while Tahir returned 1 for 22 and Shamsi 1 for 24 from their full allotments. Repeat those performances and Guyana will be well placed.
What’s the news from the camps?
Dominic Drakes missed the Patriots’ opening two games due to injury and was not listed to appear in their rainout games. His absence looms large, as does Wanindu Hasaranga, who is in danger of arriving in the Caribbean after his team was eliminated. Hasaranaga is on Asia Cup duty with Sri Lanka.
Guyana will consider the inclusion of Colin Ingram, who did not feature in their only game to date. Paul Stirling or Heinrich Klaassen would have to make way. If it was Klaassen, Shai Hope would likely get the gloves. Do not expect massive changes despite the fact that they are winless.
