The Victoria, British Columbia native crossed the springboard with a pair of career bests. Hattie won the 1-meter with a nation-leading score of 404.55 and posted the top mark on the 3-meter with 424.65, second-best in the nation and best in the SEC this season. Both performances ranked in the top 10 in Tennessee history, as his 1-yard mark was good for sixth, while his 3-yard mark ranked ninth.
“Honestly, Bryden has improved a lot over the last few years,” diving coach Dave Parrington said after the meet against the Wolfpack. “He made great strides over the summer with Team Canada, but that was also building on what we’ve been working on before. He’s diving at a very high level and he’s off to compete in the World Cup in Germany this week. He’s doing some great things. I couldn’t be more pleased. He’s been a professional and it’s starting to pay dividends. The real test is when we get to the championship season.”
On his 1-meter list, Hattie nailed his last two dives for a combined 142.08 points, scoring 72.00 on the Forward 2 1/2 Somersault 1 Twist Pike and 72.08 on the Inward 2 1/2 Somersault Tuck. Three of his six 3-meter dives eclipsed the 70-point margin — highlighted by a high-scoring Reverse 2 1/2 Somersault Pike that scored a 78.75.
It marks the second time this season and the fourth time in his career that Hattie has earned SEC weekly honors.
After a busy summer season on the international stage that saw her compete at the World Championships, Commonwealth Games and the FINA Diving Grand Prix, Hattie will represent Canada at the FINA Diving World Cup in Germany this week, competing in 3 meters and 10- meter synchronized diving.
Tennessee then has a short turnaround with a road meet at 10th-ranked Louisville on Thursday, October 20 at 2:00 PM ET.
