OAKFIELD – More than 200 people attend the Haxton Memorial Library’s Kickoff Summer Reading Carnival in Triangle Park.
The event marked the beginning of the library’s recently concluded summer reading program.
Library manager Kim Gibson said the turnout for the event was “an amazing turnout and we know this is a great start to our summer reading program.”
The two-hour event on June 30 was inspired by this year’s summer reading program theme, “Oceans of Opportunity. The carnival consisted of children’s games, face painting, beach balls, popcorn, sea candy and a touch tank from the Aquarium of Niagara.
The summer reading program ran for six weeks, from July 5th to August 15th. Library patrons were able to participate in a variety of programs and win prizes while reading for fun.
“We love seeing the excitement on our young readers’ faces when they come back to the library to share how many minutes they’ve read that week,” Gibson said. “Seeing their love of reading and their joy in coming to the library assures us that we are laying the foundation for all our future young readers and that makes all the difference in the world to us.”
The Haxton Memorial Library is at 3 North Pearl St. For information on upcoming programs, go to https://www.haxtonlibrary.org or call (585) 948-9900.
