Here’s a Cheatsheet of Free Museum Days in L.A. For September 2022

Before we get to our usual roundup of museum payments for the coming month, there are a few quick shoutouts I want to highlight.

First, the Griffith Observatory recently expanded their opening hours to four days a week, now Thursday through Sunday. No word on when they might bring back some of their previous freebies in person (All Space Considered, sunset hike, etc…), but hopefully soon. In any case, it’s just great to see increased access to one of my favorite places in Los Angeles.

Second, Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day is back on September 17 offering free admission to participating institutions across the country. Unfortunately, there are only three participants in LA County this year, and among them is the California African American Museum always free, and the Airway Museum has apparently fully booked its free games. That leaves the GRAMMY Museum, which I will say very rarely offers free admission, so it’s probably worth checking out.

As I remind you every month, there are at least two dozen museums in and around Los Angeles that offer continuous free admission to all ages, all the time (The Getty, The Getty Villa, The Broad, Hammer Museum, etc…). We’ve compiled a list of those here, so be sure to check it out if you need more ideas.

Now… to the recap!
