While most of the BAU returned for duty at Criminal Minds: Evolution, fans are still finding it hard to get over a major flaw in the Paramount+ series. Absence of Matthew Gray Gubler AND Daniel Henney.
Since the show began last fall, Rossi and the crime-fighting crew have been busy trying to stop a major threat known as the UnSub, who used the pandemic to build a prolific network of serial killers. Now that the series has officially been renewed and the season finale will premiere on February 9, Criminal minds The crew must prepare for more threats, including those in the comments section of the show.
The show loves to interact with fans on social media, so in a recent post, they asked people to “Name this band.”
As with the first episode that aired without Gubler or Henney in attendance, fans (including us!) are still salty that they were absent from evolution. People responded with messages like:
Even when they did deliver good news like their announcement of a new season, it was clear that fans had a list of priorities, and while a new season was on said list, it wasn’t at the top of it.
“I really hope Daniel comes back!” commented one observer. “PLEASE HAVE REID ON THIS NEW SEASON. 🙏 YESSSSSSS MAKE A HOME FOR MATTHEW GRAY GUBLER,” pleaded another fan.
In the premiere of Criminal Minds: evolution, it was briefly explained that Gubler and Henney’s characters were out on secret missions that cannot be discussed. In reality, the two actors could not join the new series due to conflicting schedules. Criminal Minds Host Erica Messer explained to TV Insider. “We wanted to [Gubler and Henny] both back, and both had other projects, and we only had a very short window to shoot this year. It was literally logistics; we just couldn’t get them.”
So for fans looking to see their favorite characters back with the BAU, don’t lose hope just yet! If the schedules line up, there’s a chance their returns could happen in the second season.
