Update no. 35 of Hurricane Ian
Hillsborough County, Fla. (October 8, 2022) – Hillsborough County Administrator Bonnie Wise today signed an executive order extending the local state of emergency under the authority granted by the County Emergency Management Order and Chapter 252, Florida Statutes.
The original order went into effect on September 24, after what eventually became Hurricane Ian approached Florida, and was extended on October 1. Today’s second extension is in effect until October 14.
A local state of emergency can only be in effect for seven days, unless it is canceled or extended. The emergency declaration gives the county administrator and emergency managers the ability to quickly take certain actions to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the community and provides a path for federal reimbursement of certain expenses.
