We wrote an article sometime in 2019 about how to get verified on Twitter, but a lot has changed since then. In this article, I will walk you through a step-by-step guide on how to get verified on Twitter in this day and age.

Blue Badge
In case you’ve invested any energy into Twitter — or any social media, really — you’re reasonably familiar with the blue sign of approval. These badges demonstrate verified accounts. According to Twitter, a verified account is any public interest account that has been verified by the current organization. Basically, it’s Twitter’s approach to telling everyone that you are who you say you are.
Twitter verification in general has been a train wreck. By the time the blue badge was introduced in 2009, it was basically impossible to apply for verification—Twitter had to provide it to you supernaturally. Then, in 2016, Twitter conducted a public audit program. The organization then closed applications in 2017 and did not resume them until last year.
Am I eligible to be verified?
To be verified, your account must be visible, authentic and active. The six visible account types we currently verify are:
- government
- Companies, brands and non-profits
- News organizations and journalists
- fun
- Sports and esports
- Activists, organizers and other influential individuals
Micro-influencers, thought-provoking leaders and small businesses, in particular, should sign up for verification and receive a blue badge so fake handles can’t impersonate them.

Select Request verification AND Request initiation.
Now you will have to choose the category you fall into; Depending on the category, the process is different and as you will see in my screenshots, I went with News and Freelance Journalist.
Enter all required fields for verification and accept all if you qualify depending on what you have selected.
You will be required to submit a photo of your government-issued ID, your official email address, and additional proof as noted above. You will then revise before hitting the final submit button.
Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll have to wait for Twitter to review it.
You should be notified by email within 14 days if you are approved, but you will also receive an email from them immediately after submitting your application.
In case your application is unsuccessful, you will have to wait 30 days before you can reapply again.

- Accounts involved in serious violations of our Platform spam and manipulation policy, such as train stalking.
- Accounts of individuals or groups associated with coordinated harmful activity, or hateful content as set forth in Twitter’s Advertising Policies

Can Twitter revoke my badge?
In accordance with Twitter Terms of Service, Twitter may remove an account’s verified status at any time without notice. Badge removal based on repeat violations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and is not automatic.
Twitter may also remove the blue badge from accounts found to be in serious or repeated violations of the Twitter Rules. Any violation of the Twitter Terms of Service or the Twitter Rules, tampering with Twitter processes, or circumventing enforcement actions may result in loss of the badge or, in certain cases, suspension.
Can I request to remove my verified badge?
It is currently not possible to request that Twitter remove your verified badge.
